Sweden's most beautiful workplace is seeking a

SAR Coordinator for Maritime and Air Search and Rescue Operations

based in Luleå/Umeå

In the event of maritime and aviation accidents, the Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket), through its Search and Rescue (SAR) Department, is responsible for rescue services in close cooperation with several other actors. The collaboration involves parties such as the Maritime Administration's pilot stations, Helicopter Unit, and Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), the Swedish Maritime Rescue Association (SSRS), the Coast Guard (KBV), the Swedish Armed Forces, municipal rescue services, regions, the police, and others.

The position of SAR Coordinator for maritime and air rescue operations will be part of SAR Strategic Management, which handles assignments related to the prerequisites of the SAR system and various collaborative missions. The unit consists of eight employees and a few others seconded from other parts of the department, four of whom work with regional coordination. We are now looking for two SAR Coordinators stationed at different locations in Sweden; this advertisement is for the position based in Luleå/Umeå.

Responsibilities

As a SAR Coordinator, you are responsible for coordinating maritime and air rescue services within an assigned geographical area based on an established operational plan and budget. The position reports directly to the Head of SAR Strategic Management. The assignment includes serving as a regional contact person for various collaborative actors. You will plan and lead regional consultation meetings and exercises, as well as participate and represent the organization at various meetings, seminars, and forums concerning maritime and air rescue services. You are responsible for evaluating completed rescue operations and handling media contacts regarding preventive work within the regional area in cooperation with the Maritime Administration's communications department.

The role also includes supporting the training activities of the Search and Rescue department together with other colleagues. You will work as an instructor and lecturer at SAR training courses, which include serving as the commanding officer on board surface rescue units. You will contribute to the planning of the training and the work to further develop the course content.

The position also includes responsibility for civil defense work at the regional level. This means that, within the framework of the Maritime Administration's SAR assignment, you will participate in planning, coordination, and collaboration with relevant authorities and actors, as well as contribute to regional forums and exercises linked to total defense.

Other assignments may arise, such as contributing to the unit's work on handling consultation responses, conducting investigations and projects, and planning national and international exercises.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone with post-secondary education in maritime affairs, aviation, rescue services, or defense, and/or equivalent knowledge and professional experience deemed relevant for the position. You must have good verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English and be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite. A manual transmission driver's license (Class B) is required for the position. Experience working with tasks related to the crisis management system within rescue services, the public sector, and/or the municipal sector, as well as civil defense work, is an asset, as is experience from coordination assignments, evaluations, and participation in rescue operations. It is also an asset if you hold a Certificate of Competency as Master Mariner Class VIII and Engineer Officer Class VIII.

We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. Since the assignment involves many contacts, both internal and external, it is important that you are attentive, able to build trusting relationships, and capable of being a good representative for the organization. You must have good planning skills and the ability to work independently based on set goals, both at an operational and strategic level. You should possess strong leadership skills with clear integrity; you should be proactive, solution-oriented, and maintain a positive attitude in your work. The assignments require good administrative and organizational skills.

For the instructor assignment, it is important that you enjoy teaching and are a good pedagogue. You must have the ability to identify the needs of course participants and apply humble leadership.

How and when?

This recruitment is for a permanent position expected to be filled in the spring. Working hours are Monday to Friday, arranged in consultation with the responsible manager; some evening work may occur in connection with training and exercises. The assignments involve many travel days due to the need for regional presence, as well as training conducted on Arkö in the Östergötland archipelago and in Gothenburg.

Interviews will be conducted in mid-April.

The Swedish Maritime Administration may apply a six-month probationary period.

The position may involve wartime deployment at the Swedish Maritime Administration.
